Around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, the CyberLeek profile again published material related to GTA VI. It's the same name that came up at the center of yesterday's leak when they started circulating gameplay videos and an image pointed at Leonida's full map.
This time, however, the amount of scenes increased — and particular information ended up stealing attention.
According to one of the publications made by the profile, GTA VI would have some kind of currency that could be exchanged for real world money. The comparison used by the leaker himself was with Robux, a currency used within the Roblox ecosystem.
That's a huge statement. And that's precisely why you need to be treated very carefully.
Rockstar Games has so far announced no such system for GTA VI. We don't even know what the function of this supposed currency would be, who could convert it into money or whether it would be part of the main game, some online component or just an internal version used during development.
Still, it's hard to ignore the size of the idea in case it's true.
An economy that can go far beyond GTA Online
GTA Online has shown for years that Rockstar knows how to build a virtual economy around vehicles, real estate, businesses and items. The money within the game, however, has always remained essentially within that universe.
A coin capable of leaving the game and assuming some real value would completely change that logic.
Comparison with Robux helps to understand the concept, but can also generate a wrong interpretation. In Roblox, eligible creators can convert certain Robux obtained inside the platform in real currency through a program itself. This does not necessarily mean that any virtual currency can simply be drawn by any player.
So if there's anything like it in GTA VI, you still have to understand pretty much everything.
Would it be a currency for content creators? For players? For the sale of items? Would there be a market between users? Would it be linked to the future GTA Online?
Right now, any answer would be speculation.
But only the possibility already opens a huge discussion about how far Rockstar intends to lead the economy of the next GTA.
New videos show more of the game in operation
The supposed coin was not the only novelty published this morning.
Among the new videos attributed to the leak, plane piloting scenes appear, including an area with airstrip. The sequence reinforces that aircraft continue to have important space in the exploration of Leonida and shows a little more of the range of areas outside the urban center.
Another excerpt shows the character inside a passenger seat vehicle, using a gun against other targets as the car moves, in addition to the video in a boat with Jason shooting at everything that is corner.
There is also a video of Jason running, allowing better observation of the character's movement and his own racing mechanics. It's a simple thing close to other revelations, but it helps to see a little more of how the character responds during the normal exploration of the world, especially in a material that apparently still represents a development phase.
It is a detail that may seem common when we talk about GTA, but these videos help to show better how combat and movement are apparently being handled.
Images of beach regions were also released, showing more of the coast and open areas of Leonida. These are scenes that go a long way with what Rockstar has already officially presented in trailers, but here they appear from another angle and help give a better idea of the variety of environments spread across the map.
Another curious detail is right on the map. At times, certain regions appear in red. It is unclear what this means, but there is a possibility that the change is related to the persecution system, indicating a region where Jason is being sought or where there is a larger police presence. For now, it is only an interpretation of what appears in the images and cannot treat it as a confirmed mechanics.
There are also pictures in a nightclub, with dancers performing pole dance, something very familiar for those who know the series. It is not surprising, but it reinforces the amount of indoor environments and activities that are apparently being worked on in the game.
And it is precisely the set of these videos that makes this second leak more interesting.
Yesterday, attention was very focused on the map and the systems that could be identified by the interface. Today, we start to see more common gameplay situations: running, driving, shooting, flying, sailing, entering establishments and simply circulating around the world.
How much of this material still exists in the current GTA VI?
That remains the most important point.
None of this was officially confirmed by Rockstar.
The previous leak has already shown elements such as focus system, energy and return of the six stars wanted, while a widely shared image features Leonida divided into five counties. The coverage published on Wednesday also highlights that the authenticity of the materials was not officially confirmed, despite removals and copyright claims that have reached some republics.
And when it comes to development material, there is another problem: even something authentic may not represent the game that will be released.
Features are created, tested, modified and removed all the time during the development of a project of this size.
The supposed coin may be a good example. It can be a central system not yet revealed, it can belong to some online modality, it can be a test tool or simply something that no longer exists.
For now, we don't know.
And it looks like it's not over yet.
CyberLeek indicated that more details should be released, which suggests that the material published this morning may be just another part of what is in the possession of the leaker.
Therefore, this news will be updated if new relevant videos or information appears throughout the day.
And if there is one point that deserves to be followed closely, it is precisely that story of the coin.
Because planes, shootings in vehicles, boats, beaches, and nightclubs are part of the universe we're already hoping to find in GTA.
A virtual economy potentially connected to real money, on the other hand, would be something capable of completely changing the way we look at the future of GTA VI and GTA Online.
For now, however, it remains exactly this: an allegation present in a leak, not a confirmed feature of the game.
