GTA 6 to 60 FPS on PS5 and PS5 Pro? What we really know

Rockstar has not yet confirmed the GTA VI frame rate. Hardware allows you to discuss scenarios, but 30 or 60 FPS remain estimates until the company discloses the graphical modes.

GTA 6 to 60 FPS on PS5 and PS5 Pro? What we really know

30 or 60 FPS? This is one of the most repeated questions about GTA VI, but there is an objective answer for now: Rockstar has not yet announced the frame rate or the graphical modes of the game in PS5, PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X.S.

The reason many analysts consider 30 FPS a possibility is on the open world scale. Traffic, physics, animations, characters and game logic compete CPU time with each frame. The shorter the time available per frame, the harder it is to keep all this simulation uncut.

Default PS5 uses an AMD-based CPU Zen 2, with eight cores and variable frequency up to 3.5 GHz, according to specifications published by Sony. What is not official is to conclude, only from that data, that GTA VI necessarily will be stuck at 30 FPS.

Rockstar historically prioritizes dense worlds and strong visual presentation on consoles, but each game and each generation have different solutions. Without analysis of the final version, you can't turn studio history into a performance confirmation.

What about PS5 Pro? The console has more graphical capacity than the original PS5 and is designed to offer greater fidelity with smoother frame rates in compatible games.

Sony highlights three pillars of PS5 Pro: Enhanced GPU, more advanced ray tracing and PSSR, machine-based image reconstruction system. In 2026, the company also released an updated version of PSSR for compatible titles.

This graphical gain can help developers balance resolution and image quality, but it does not allow them to assert alone what the GTA VI limit will be. A heavy CPU load can remain relevant even when there is more power available in the GPU.

Therefore, to say today that the PS5 Pro “will run GTA VI to 60 FPS” is as hasty as saying that “it will get stuck in 30 FPS”. The existence of an improved version does not reveal the ways Rockstar decided to offer.

Is a performance mode possible? Technically, developers can create different profiles of resolution, effects and density to search for a higher frame rate. If Rockstar's gonna do this in GTA VI, it hasn't been announced yet.

Reducing internal resolution is one of the available tools and reconstruction technologies as PSSR can help recover image quality in PS5 Pro.

It is also possible to adjust graphic effects, drawing distance and other elements that weigh on the GPU. Each choice, however, depends on how the game was designed and the quality target set by the studio.

On the other hand CPU-connected systems are not solved simply by downloading resolution. This is why technical analyses usually separate bottlenecks from GPU and CPU when discussing open world games.

Until Rockstar publishes display modes or specialized vehicles analyze the final version, the correct scenario is to treat 30 and 60 FPS as possibilities. What is confirmed is the release on November 19, 2026 and that the PlayStation version is listed as PS5 Improving Pro; the page does not report an official FPS target.
